Sick Day

For the record, I took a sick day yesterday.
Because inbetween all the partying and doing and stuff (most of which I haven't even blogged about)
I have felt absolutely awful.
Like sweats in the middle of meetings.
Achy body.
Feeling like throwing up after every meal.
Scratchy throat that never develops into a full blown sore throat.
Except that I haven't felt sick enough to go to bed.

Until yesterday.
I said enough was enough and I declared the day an official sick day.

I answered a minimum of phone calls.
Took a nap.
Didn't wear makeup or contacts.
Went to the myopractor----some blessed relief.
Ditched out on the Trunk or Treat last night......I decided to take off the "relief society president" calling and not go even though there were many members and investigators who attended.
Actually watched tv on the couch last night. (which is rare)
In between dozing off I caught up on
The weather (warming up after today)
The latest slime that Jon & Kate are throwing at each other (I quit watching their show-ug)
Some really funny episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, except I can't remember the plot.
Some stuff on HGTV-somebody from Utah buying a mansion in Mexico and some crazy young couple tearing up a room to make a play room.
Enough late night tv to last me for awhile, in between sleeping.

But I did do about 6 loads of laundry.
Worked on a new photo book of our trip to California.
Vacuumed all hard surface floors in the house.
Did my dictation.

So I guess all was not lost.

Do I feel better?
Maybe.
I better.
I'm taking some nice ladies to the temple in about 30 minutes.
And I woke up this morning listening to poor Steve in the bathroom.

I think he's taking a sick day today.

P.S. Please don't tell me how lucky I am that I can take a day off and be sick without kids. Trust me, been there done that......

Boo-tiful Babies

We went to Grandma's house last night for our October party!

We got to dress up in our costumes!
We made spiders with our handprints! Some of us spent our time just looking cute.We made ghosts out of lollipops.
We frosted pumpkin cookies.Mmmm. I like frosting! We made mummy dogs for dinner

Aunt Jessica made magic potion to drink!I guess Uncle Rick was pretty busy-we didn't see much of him.The best part was the pinata!
And then Grandma's camera battery died.

Grandma says she is going to take a nap for the rest of the week.

I wonder why.

So Where in the World is Bubba D??

So, this is a little late, and is old news for some people.

I got a call last Sunday night from Daniel's mission president's wife. She said he arrived safely. She told me how wonderful he is. (I loved that) Then she told me where he is. I gasped.

It's 120 miles south of the Artic Circle.

It's about 200 miles northeast of the tallest mountain in the Northern Hemisphere.

It has the widest range of temperatures in the world. It can go down to -66 degrees in the winter, and up to 99 degrees in the summer.

It's the second largest city in Alaska.

It's Fairbanks, Alaska!

She said he is thrilled!

I told her he doesn't have very much clothing-it's a little hard to find in the desert Southwest.

She says he'll be fine. He can get everything he needs there.

He says they drive trucks to get around. I'm sure he's loving that.

He says it gets so cold sometimes that tires will freeze and break.

He says people live in giant houses or little shacks the size of our family room with a heated wood stove.

Can you see him there? Way in the back left with his arms raised up?

I can't wait to hear what he says next!

Edit!

Since I post-dated this-we got some PHOTOS of him from a member early this morning:

It looks like he is not a block of ice yet. I'm so glad he gets to carve a pumpkin this year! Thanks Sis. Wilson for thinking of me!!!

Fun Friday-or Why my Life is Never Dull, Part 2

If you do not recall Part 1, go here.

A couple of days ago, I returned home from an evening meeting to be greeted with this:

Aww, a bunch of returned missionaries all dressed up.Are they having a serious scriptural discussion? A Bible study group?Bearing testimony?

No.

It's draft night for the Martha Stewart League of the Fantasy Basketball season.

And here is the commissioner of the Martha Stewart Fantasy Basketball League congratulating somebody for something. (??????)There's always a lot of serious negotiation going on during the draft.A job well done.

People, these men are the future wives of your daughters and fathers of your grandchildren.

I have no words.

But I do laugh alot.

Back to The Garden

I've been out digging in the dirt again, since our heat wave seems to have passed. Round II of planting has begun. So here's some photos of the progress of Round I:Peas n' carrotsSome VERY happy bok choy-yum-I'm sensing an impending stir fry here:Progress in the lettuce patch.

Burgeoning broccoli:
Gorgeous red chilis-I've been too lazy-or busy-to pick these and use them for chili rellenos. Okay, Granny J....what do I do with these???

Round II: This is my theory here, or at least what I've been told. When planting, you don't just do it all at once, or then you'll have a harvest all at once. Three weeks ago (or thereabouts), I planted Round I and so yesterday I started Round II-with a few deviations:

See the bigger plants at the top of the picture? They were planted three weeks ago. The itty bitty ones at the bottom were planted yesterday. Now I will have a staggered broccoli/cauliflower harvest.

This year I'm giving celery a shot. We'll see what happens. The lady said to keep it wet.

Widdle plants and dirt. Underneath the dirt is seeds!

Round II, here we go!

Photo Update!

Some friends from our ward were visiting the Provo Temple a week ago last Sunday and guess who they saw????
Ahhhhh! There's nothing that makes a mom happier than seeing a photo of her son. Doesn't he look great? That's his companion just behind him. Cool tie.Nope, he hasn't changed a bit. Still making goofy faces for the camera.

I Thought This Kind of Stuff Ended with High School

Sunday morning we woke up to this:
I'm the mother of a very attractive, albeit poor, single, available RM.
So either someone has a secret crush, or it is all a joke instigated by his numerous male friends, probably the latter. At any rate, I'm secretly pleased-because of course I think he is cool and cute.
Aww. we love Steve too and he rocks our socks.
Now come back and wash off my driveway.

P.S. You'll note that there are no flowers in the front. I lied on Sat. Flower planting didn't happen. My body told me....no planting happening today. Plus the fact that it was over 100 degrees on Sat. Ug.
