Here Comes Trubba

Meet Trubba Bubba, as he is affectionately known by his parents.
In the Olden Days, a few months ago, we could plop Trubba down and he would pretty much stay put where we plopped him.
But then something happened.
Trubba began to figure out that he could be mobile.
When we plopped him down, he began to move around.....fast!
We began to get more exercise chasing him around.
And now in the course of a week.
He is running!
He has metamorphed.......
He comes to visit me at least once a week.
I am amazed at his progress.
Now he is a climber.
Heaven help us.
I found him on top of an end table yesterday.
His mom has found him on top of worse.

So now every time Trubba comes to visit us,
We close every door in the house.
Check all cords and tables.
And we smother him with kisses!!!

Why I would be Broke and Fat if I lived in Utah

Because I am a BYU Bookstore geek.
I could spend HOURS in BYU bookstore.
I limited myself to one hour this time.
And $100.
Two of these scholarly tomes are for TL for Christmas so shhhhhh....
But he doesn't read my blog so it's okay.

I LOVE browsing the shelves.
They have a better selection of the books I'm interested in than any Deseret, Borders or Barnes & Noble.

So I have to content myself with my thrice yearly visits to soak up the anticipation of unread books..
I could have spent $500!

Why would I be fat?
Because my favorite chocolate in all the world is Mrs. Cavannaugh's.
Conveniently located in your nearby University Mall.

Come to think of it, I would be broke & fat if I spent all my time at Mrs. Cavannaugh's.
Because that chocolate, although mighty fine tasting.
Is dang expensive too!

Maybe I should stick with BYU Bookstore.
And be broke.
But smart.
And skinny.

Things I Learned in Utah

  • It wasn't as cool as I thought it was going to be, but WAY cooler than home.
  • Having lunch with my mom & sister is about the best therapy EVER.
  • I took a Book of Mormon class with my sister, it was AMAZING. If you want to know what I learned, put your email in a comment. It's too sacred to share on the world wide web.
  • I'm a stalker. Yes, I am.  Stephanie Nielsen, "nienie," lives only a couple of blocks from my mom's house in Provo. So I drove by her house....sloooowwllyyy. Of course it is as cute and adorable as she is. No, she wasn't outside so I could shout out a hello to her. And then I felt really lame cuz she lives on kind of a dead-end type road so I had to turn around awkwardly to get to my intended destination.
  • Looking at landmarks out an airplane window is super fun (I know, I don't get out much)
  • It's fun to get away, but home is best.

Summer Doldrums

It was 111 degrees yesterday! The summer is sticking it to us, wringing the last bit of sweat out of our bodies. For heaven's sake, enough is enough! It's almost October for cryin' out loud.....

The good news is..

I'm headed north to suck in cool breezes
Smell fall in the air
and see a few changing leaves...
Dampen the hot flashes.....
In the Mother Land of Utah county.
Which of course is imbedded in my DNA.
Gazing up at the amazing mountains.
On the tree streets in Provo.

Maybe summer will blast itself outa here
By the time I come home!

True Confessions

a. There's something that smells really rank in my kitchen.
And I can't figure out where it is.
Ever had that?
A serious investigation needs to ensue.

b.I think I'm coming down with a cold.
Ug.
I had the achy-breaky flu two weeks ago.
(hence the lack of blogging)
I'm just not ready to face another virus.
(break out the echinacea tea)

c. I hate hot flashes.
Especially when you live in the desert.
'Nuf said.

d. I seriously hate my new dishwasher.
(i can hear gasping from my daughters!)
It's gorgeous.
in all it's stainless steel finery.
It has sufficient space for the dishes if...
You are a widow lady who lives with a cat.
Who never cooks.
And uses paper plates mostly.

But I cook.
And I make messes with pots and pans and beaters.
And we eat off real plates.
And drink water with real glasses.

So off to Sears I went yesterday.
Nearly two hours later....
The new dishwasher will be delivered within 48 hours (business days)

Ok-I think that's enough whining for one day.

It Happened!!

Every season I wonder......
Will it happen again?
Will my little seeds sprout and grow??
They did!!
Seeds planted on Labor Day.
Sprouted less than seven days later....

Oh ye of little faith!

(there's some tiny carrots too!)

Now I'm requesting it to cool off so that I can experience more miracles and that these guys will flower and produce, not fry....

Double digits would be great......
thankyouverymuch...

Images from Today

And so it begins.
The first fall garden box planted.
I don't know why it didn't occur to me that I could start off earlier with some summer veggies.
Duh.
This one has green beans, squash and carrots.
It's always a test of faith to plant those little seeds and hope for the best.
Hopefully I'll have some images of some green sprouts next week.
(If we can keep the birds out!)
One last cantaloupe, literally hanging on for dear life.
I'm hoping it will last until ripeness before the plant fries or we give up and pull it out.
We had 4 delicious sweet cantaloupes this year from one plant!
Not a lot-but a big success from years past.
Delicious Utah peaches!
Waiting to be cut up.
I freeze them for smoothies.
Last week it was raspberries.
Delicious raspberry freezer jam.
And some for smoothies too.
I'm hoping I made enough jam to last a year!
The view out my front door.
I love getting a flag posted on National Holidays.
To remind me of this great country.
The new quilt class I'm headed off to in about an hour!
Can't wait!
(Better hurry up)
And finally, we're having a BIG birthday party for these little guys today!
I can't believe that the one on the left turned ONE yesterday.
And the other little guy will be ONE in about three weeks!

Those Images will be Tomorrow.

P.S. Jen-I took all these photos using my Av mode!! aren't you proud of me?

Really, I've wanted to Blog this Week

But life keeps getting in the way.

Recently I read a talk by Julie B. Beck, general president of the Relief Society (my heroine BTW).
She was talking about priorities (she also has a video)
She said it's important to do the
Essentials first.
Then the necessary.
Then the nice-to-dos.

So here's just one of my essentials.....
Trying to get that done first daily.

Here's a necessary.....

New season of swim team!!
(but I think that would be fun to do also because I love taking photos of the action!)

And of course, blogging is a nice-to-do......

So what is on your essential, necessary and nice-to-do list?
