So Beyond Excited- My "Fruit Room"

I've been trying to figure out a title for this post, and nothing really comes close to the extreme excitement and pleasure I have experienced over one of my Christmas gifts. Let me preface this by telling my true confession.

I wish I had a basement.

I do.

I am so envious of you people in the northlands who have "fruit rooms."

I think my sister's basement storage room is to die for.

She probably doesn't.

So anyways.......

Since I can't have one....here's the rest of the story.

Five years ago we completely remodeled our house.

Hardly any area we didn't touch/paint/redo.

We added on 1000 square feet.

To our little 1800 square foot house.

One of the quirky things we did was to change a bedroom into a hallway.

Sounds weird, but it is actually very cool-just ask my family.

I have cabinets lining my "hallway."

And I have a bedroom closet on the other side of the hallway.

I know, I know, it sounds weird, but it is actually very cool-just ask my family.

So I asked TL .....oops Santa....if I could have a closet redo for Christmas.

Another side story....

We used to own a closet remodeling business.

I have custom closets in my house.

Please don't envy me.

So last week TL....oops...I mean Santa....came through like a champ.

Closet-actually after it was all torn apart and prepping for the "new" closet.

Santa's trusty side-kick, Bubba D......look you can kinda see the hallway.

Men love tools that make noise.

Loading the "closet."

Final product. I am SO beyond excited about this. This is almost as good as a fruit room I think. My long-term storage....

Okay-here's the challenge-

Figure out a way to put some more food storage in your house, if you don't have a "fruit room."

Do you have a linen closet?

Ok-go empty it out-put your towels in the bathroom under the sinks. Still don't have enough room? get rid of a few towels.

Put your extra sheets inbetween the mattress of the beds-or get rid of the extra sheets.

Put your blankets on that tippy top shelf in your closet, or get some kind of a chest that can double as an end table in your family room to hold them in.

Now you have a "food storage closet."

Don't have a linen closet?

Well, do you have little kids with lots of extra space in their closets?

Clean some of it out and put your food storage there.

Don't have any extra room?

My daughter with the two bedroom condo and no kids bought some cheapo shelving and put it in their extra bedroom, with the computer. She filled it full of her food storage, it looks awesome! I'll get her to send me a photo to post (thx Jess!)

Still don't have any room?

Then get on your knees and ask Heavenly Father for some inspiration.

I promise you.....an idea will pop into your head.....I promise!

Okay, I am not only jealous of your closet, but everything that is in it. Well, and actually not just everything that is in it, but that the shelves are TOTALLY organized! It is beautiful! I am now even more motivated to get all my storage closets and shelves organized!!

That is completely awesome! If you're anything like me, you probably just stood there for a long time staring, then you probably opened the closet and stared some more every time you walked by. And you probably made everybody who came to your house come see. I khow that's what I would do! Great job and thank you so much for linking up with us. Hope to see you again on Monday!

Marilyn,
First I want to say congratulation for being featured in Homemaking Mondays. I too live in Arizona and it is very hard to have enough room unless you are cleaver like you have been with this great fruit room. I have used up almost all of the available spaces under beds and in closets for our food storage.
This is an amazing fruit room. Enjoy! Hugs, Bobbi Jo-AZ

Your food storage closet is fabulous!! We currently have three closets in the hall and two of them are used for food storage. They are no where as pretty as yours!

WOW! I am so impressed! Where do you put all of your cleaning supplies? I have to keep mine up and out of the reach of my small kids but that is what takes up so much of my linen closet. Hmmm I'll ponder on this some more.

IF you check out my blog you'll notice that food storage is what all of my new year resolutions revolve around. I'm learning how to can and use my wheat. I'd love for you to offer more tips and suggestions/HOW To's to make food storage more do-able! (we have 8 of us in a 1600 sq ft house so the SPACE is a HUGE issue)

Hi Marilyn!
Sure I can help. In order to put the button on your sidebar, just copy the code right under the button on my left sidebar, then go to your gadgets section on your customize Blogger page, find the add HTML button, and paste it there. Let me know if that doesn't help and I'll try to be more clear. Great to meet you!

Very cool food storage closet. I converted part of my laundry room to more pantry space using an inexpensive shelving unit from IKEA. I wish I had a basement too, though!
