Today is a Good Day

Why is today a good day? Why of course because I KNOW what I am having for dinner tonight at precisely 8:46.08 AM MST. Knowing this fact at precisely 8:46.08 AM saves much grief at 4:59.45 PM today. There is nothing worse than not knowing what you are going to have for dinner when you are dragging around two (or more) crying rugrats hanging on your legs and DH (dear hubby) is going to be walking in the door any moment. (however, I must admit that this is a somewhat dim and musty memory these days--the crying rugrat thing anyway)

I have given the assignment to teenage daughter #4 to help out with dinner once a week in order to be entitled to her allowance......and my first bit of advice when planning a dinner menu was:

FIRST: Shop from your pantry.....

Well, then of course I'm thinkin-hey, this is a pretty profound piece of advice which mustn't be wasted on a mere 14 year old girl who doesn't appreciate it anyway....it must be shared with the world at large!
I usually plan out my menus weekly-I'm so proud of my girls-they are doing the same thing--based on what I have in the pantry and then shop the sales....saves $$....and lots of stress and grief at 4:59.45 PM.
Oh......what are we having for dinner tonight??? Pasta salad and fresh melons. My family loves it----but only the ones who sprang forth from my womb--tres yernos (sons in law) don't-except the DDIL (dear daughter in law) who had the highly intelligent sense to marry my son and like my pasta salad.

You know, tyson and I started planning our meals for the week on saturdays and it has made my life so much easier! It also cut down on our grocery bills by about $20-$30 a week. That is nothing to sneeze at! The only problem comes when you're not in the mood for the scheduled dinner...

I do a two week menu, leaving a few extra days open for leftovers and such. My pantry does not look like yours, though!

Oh, Marilyn, you are truely a clever writer. I enjoy reading your blogs when I get the time. It seems I can't sit in front of the computer very long anymore. JOYCE

That's one good looking pantry there...are you sure you let your teenagers touch it?
