Confessions of a very Naughty, Neglectful Gardener

Yesterday, I was out strolling in my neglected garden, weeding a bit here and there and these suckers had been growing right under my very eyes and I never saw them!
Now to give you a perspective of how big they really are, under great difficulty, I took this photo:
That, people, on the bottom, is my ELBOW.
Those, people, on the top, are my FINGERS!

Cucumbers gone wild!
Total weight:  10 lbs!!!
Now what the heck am I going to do with these ginormous babies???

Help!!!

Granny J: I need your relish recipe. Does it taste good with Armenian cucumbers??????

Sweet Pickle Relish

1 quart chopped cucumbers
2 cups chopped onions
1 cup chopped sweet green pepper
1 cup chopped sweet red pepper
1/4 cup salt
3-1/2 cups sugar
1 Tablespoon celery seed
1 Tablespoon mustard seed
2 cups cider vinegar

Combine all veggies in large bowl, sprinkle with salt and cover with water. Let stand 2 hours. Drain; rinse and drain thoroughly. Combine sugar, spices and vinegar in large saucepot. Bring to a boil. Add drained veggies; simmer 10 minutes. Pack hot relish into hot jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace. Remove air bubbles. Adjust caps. Process 10 minutes in a water bath or steamer.

This is from Ball Blue Book...we love it!
Good luck!

I just saw a recipe a couple of days ago for a cucumber/radish salsa to put on top of grilled fish. Or do the old "stand by" - sliced cucumbers in vinegar as a nice summer side dish.

Wow! Looks like cucumbers on steroids :)
I am sorry about the bad luck genie hanging around your house too! I had a friend tell me once, that bad things happened in 3's!! It sure seems like that,
or 4's or
5's.......
I guess once everything goes downhill that only way for it to go from there is uphill :)
Hope you have a great day today, and that you get to do something fun!!
p.s. happy belated birthday to your son!! What a character :)

so you can totally answer a question I've had for the longest time. My brother told me that when produce gets THAT oversized that it tastes awful. IS IT TRUE OR NO?
