Green Smoothies

All my kids know that I am pretty much obsessed with green smoothies. I learned about the value of fresh greens, so full of vitamins and minerals, so I decided to throw a handful of spinach in one of my smoothies one day and it was mighty good! (I've even thrown kale into the mix and nobody knew-ha ha)

The trick to green smoothies is:

60% fruit to 40% greens.
That way you can't taste the green stuff. So here's a couple of my favorites:
The pina colada.....
Orange juice
Fresh/canned pineapple
Banana
Coconut milk (buy this at Asian markets-it's cheaper)
BIG handful of spinach

The berry green smoothie:

Apple juice
Banana
Various berries-whatever you have
Strawberries, frozen mixed berries from Costco
BIG handful of spinach

I usually use fruit juice because so many of the recipes I have seen have added sugar or honey, so when I use juice (non-sweetened kind) I don't add the extra sugar.

That being said, for family night last night I had two of these......

So much for my healthy diet.........

Long-time "Lurker", First time poster!

Anyway, when I saw you'd shared what you put in your smoothies I just had to say a BIG Thank you!

(I have a fiance who is a very unhealthy eater, and I have a feeling I maaayy be getting a blender as a wedding pressie--So Smoothies will be served frequently in our household! It's the only way I can sneak in some fruit and veggies to his diet!)

A delightful krispy kreme every once in a while never hurt anyone! Although,I think I would rather drink the green smoothie. You have never made me the red one. I want that next time!

Hey sis, I have a high power blender, and instead of juice I put juicier fruits, like grapes or oranges, then add other stuff. Here's a vegie one for you: 1 cup grapes, 1 tomato, 1 cut up carrot, 1/2 cut up cucumber, 1 stalk celery, and a handful of spinach. Yum! I also throw in a tablespoon of flax into my smoothies. No one ever knows!

or you can use Agave as a sweetener. It's great!

I'm going to try those recipes. Sometimes, especially when it's hot, the fam would prefer a yummy smoothie for dinner over something hot. And it's quicker for me so I like the idea.

Whatever you're doing is working nicely because you are one hot (and skinny!) momma!

Didn't you know that every green smoothie you drink cancels out a Krispy Kreme doughnut...c'mon you had to know that with your TN connections. :)

mmmm mmmm...I just bought Krisy Kreme's today....and I forgot about them and I am craving a treat....thanks for the idea.

Now, I am going to have to try your green pina colada tomorrow. shoot, it's going to have to be the day after cinco de mayo pina colada.

Must say that the green smoothie is one thing I crave with this pregnancy that is actually GOOD for me. I'm needing more coconut milk though...the pina colada flavor is soooooo good.
