Musical Memories

Yesterday Jessica dropped by to share with me her latest downloads on her cute pink ipod. She said, "I have a song I want you to hear..." I put on the earphones and instantly.......

I was transported back to my sophomore year, trying out for the songleaders...(the high school dance performing group). One of our tryout numbers was to the tune of "Classical Gas." I remember the anticipation and fright of the performance and the elation when they called my name as a new squad member!

Whenever I hear, "Feliz Navidad" I am reminded of this performance the Christmas of 1973....(that's me with the raised up arms-I still remember some of the moves!)

Listening to this song instantly transports me back to the inside of Mike Findeis' car, taking me home after mutual. He was so "hot" and I had a major "crush" on him for most of my high school years. In fact, years later my sister got to go out with him at the Y---I'm still bitter about this....

Hearing Rod Stewart's "Maggie" reminds me of the extreme guilt and discomfort I felt when I was ditching 9th grade one afternoon.....(sorry mom)

Music is incredibly powerful-I mean what can soothe a raging soul, lift up a depressed spirit and cause you to "kick it up a notch" when working out?

So what's your musical memory???

It is so incredible how music can transport us back in time. You'll enjoy this story--a few months ago my 17 year old played a song on his iPod on our way home from Seminary and was shocked when I was singing along. I said, "Are you kidding? That was popular when I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL!!!"

I used to enjoy Jose Feliciano

all the 80's songs my girls listen to (and think they discovered by themselves) bring me back to early high school. The feeling is a combination of nausea and exhilaration.
but the show tunes & big band stuff, some of which I recently downloaded on my IPOD, remind me of my childhood and my sweet mom and dad and all those wonderful evenings at home, watching them dance with each other in the kitchen and making dinner together. At times it can make me bawl like a baby.
I miss them soooooo much!

Music is a passion of mine. I love it! I agree that it can effect your emotions in a heartbeat! Music is truly an inspirational.

I listen to a station that plays the music from when I was growing up. Oddly enough it is the same music they are remaking today. The kids are amazed that I know their songs!

Oh, I love it. Music takes me back too. Isn't interesting that the music from the 80s is the "new" oldies?

Sorry about Mike--I couldn't resist :-) I think I went out with nearly all of his roommates too, hehe!

The music on the radio provides the soundtrack to our lives.
So many music memories, I don't even know where to start.
"Babe" By Styx....... The one and only dance I went to in Jr. High.
Journey, Foreigner, Boston,.......... Driving around during the summer with the T-tops off of my Trans Am (Yes I was that cool.....HA HA HA HA HA! Sometimes I crack myself up)
I find it amazing that I can remember all the words to all the songs I loved 20 years ago, however, I can't remember what I did yesterday.

There are so many songs that bring back memories. Especially memories of dance! I think just about every guy I had a crush on over the years had his very own "song."

But the first one I thought of was "Free Falling" by Tom Petty. It reminds me of eating strawberry poptarts ninth grade biology.
